Jane Steele Ms. Senior Del.
Jane T. Steele, a former secretary in Plant Operations for 17
years, who retired in 1986, was selected as Ms. Senior Delaware in
November.
Steele had help at the Delaware contest from her monkey puppet
companion, Monk. Steele and Monk have been entertaining her friends
for quite a while, and on this occasion, Monk helped her introduce her
artwork to the judges and audience. Painting has been Steele's
avocation for several years, and she has recently turned to portraits,
which she exhibited during her presentation.
Then Steele used a blank canvas to demonstrate the problems an
artist faces in creating a work of art, and finished by showing a
portrait of Monk. The combination of art and entertainment won her
first place in the contest.
The contest was held on Veteran's Day, and as Steele was a Wave
in World War II, her winning was especially meaningful, she said.
In September, Steele and her sidekick Monk will pack up her
artwork and travel to Biloxi, Miss., to compete for the title of
National Ms. Senior America.
