NAC men's basketball tournament begins on Friday

     Pairings have been set for the 1996 North Atlantic Conference
(NAC) men's basketball tournament to be held Friday through Sunday,
March 1-3, at the University's Bob Carpenter Center.
     The tournament begins with two play-in games at 6 p.m. and 8
p.m., Friday, March 1. The early match-up pits No. 8-seeded New
Hampshire (6-20, 5-13 NAC) vs. No. 9-seeded Hartford (5-21, 5-13 NAC).
The late game features No. 7 Hofstra (9-17, 5-13 NAC) vs. No. 10
Northeastern (3-23, 2-16 NAC).
     Saturday's quarterfinal games begin at noon with host and No. 4-
seeded Delaware (15-11, 11-7 NAC) taking on No. 5 Towson State (15-11,
11-7 NAC). Drexel (23-3, 17-1 NAC) two-time defending NAC champion and
No. 1 seed, will play the New Hampshire-Hartford winner at 2 p.m.
     Second-place seeded Boston University (16-10, 13-5 NAC) will play
the Northeastern-Hofstra winner at 6 p.m., and No. 3 Maine (14-12, 11-
7 NAC) will play No. 6 Vermont (12-14, 10-8 NAC) at 8 p.m.
     The four quarterfinal winners will play at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.,
Sunday, March 3.
     The NAC men's championship game will be played at 5 p.m.,
Thursday, March 7, at the site of the higher remaining seed. That game
will be televised live on ESPN 2.
     Ticket prices are $30 for a full tournament package, $25 for UD
season ticketholders, and $10 per session-there are four sessions.
     Student ticket prices are $16 for a full tournament and $4 per
session. All sales, except for UD season ticketholders, must be made
in person with tournament packages available at the season ticket
office located in Delaware Field House. Single session tickets are
available at the Bob Carpenter Center box office.
     The Blue Hens won NAC titles in 1992 and 1993 but lost in the
quarterfinals to New Hampshire each of the past two seasons.
     On Thursday, Feb. 29, several North Atlantic Conference men's
basketball coaches will conduct a free youth basketball clinic from 4-
5 p.m. at J.C. Penney's Court at the Christiana Mall.
     Expected to attend the clinic are Delaware head coach Mike Brey,
Drexel head coach Bill Herrion, Hofstra head coach Jay Wright, Maine
head coach Rudy Keeling and Towson State assistant coach and former
Notre Dame and NBA player Adrian Dantley.
     The clinic, which is part of activities for the 1996 NAC Men's
Basketball Tournament, will run for one hour. Coaches will be
available for autographs after the session.
