Variety of events set in Hen Zone

The Hen Zone in the Perkins Student Center has an exciting lineup
of comedy, music and special events planned for late February and
March.
All events are free and open to the public and take place on the
lower level of the Perkins Student Center. Doors open at 8 p.m. and,
unless otherwise noted, events begin at 8:30 p.m.
A Tuesday series of comedy events will feature stand-up
comediennes from Comedy Cabaret Inc., as well as independent
performers with national recognition. Improvisational comedy, juggling
and bizarre feats of skill are also included in some of the acts.
Suzie Tasca, former Newark resident and Sanford school graduate,
brings her comedic talents to the Hen Zone on Feb. 27. Ray & Ray,
featuring Ray Solimeno and Ray Pennetti from Comedy Cabaret and
Dangerfields, will perform on March 5. J.J. Ramirez and his "Dating
Game" is scheduled for March 12; and a special appearance of Comedy
Sportz is set for March 19.
The Hen Zone music lineup, which takes place on Thursdays,
includes many local bands and some area guests. Several bands are
making their Hen Zone debuts after playing local venues such as The
Deer Park, Barn Door and Stone Balloon.
Featured on Feb. 29 will be Nero, composed of the former members
of the Obese Pharaohs of Funk. The Verge, an alternative pick of the
month by Big Shout magazine, will perform on March 7. Savannah's
Cryin' will appear on March 14.
Special features celebrating Black History Month in the Hen Zone
include Monday night poetry readings and Wednesday night performances
by the UD Black Student Theatre. "A Heavy Rap" poetry reading is set
for Monday, Feb. 26; and "Companion of the Fire" by Ali Wadud can be
seen on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
