Pair of concerts in Loudis hall
     A faculty recital, featuring Marie Robinson, soprano, with
pianist Julie Nishimura will be presented at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25,
in Loudis Recital Hall.
     The program will include Exaultate, jubilate by Mozart, Die junge
Nonne by Franz Schubert, Tu che le vanita from Verdi's Don Carlo and
Ned Rorem's Cycle of Holy Songs.
     At 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 29, the Taggart-Grycky Duo, with guest
artist Ruth Wright on viola, will perform Serenade for Flute, Viola
and Guitar by Matiegka, Suite Espagnole by Joaquin Nin, Three Dances
from the Gayane Ballet by Khachaturian, Toward the Sea by Toru
Takemitsu and Ecologues for Flute, Viola and Guitar by Castelnuovo-
Tedesco.
     Both concerts are free and open to the public


Real estate course set in Wilmington
     A four-day course, "Real Estate Appraisal Applications," will be
held on the University's Wilmington Campus on four Saturdays this
spring: March 23 and 30 and April 20 and 27. Each session will meet
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. for a total of 30 hours of classroom
instruction.
     The course, which constitutes a requirement for the University's
real estate appraisal certificate program, will allow participants to
demonstrate proficiency in writing and evaluating appraisal reports.
     The instructor is Vincent M. Dowling, a nationally recognized
real estate appraiser and president of Dowling & Associates. The
course is accredited as a continuing education class for licensed real
estate agents.
     The $405 fee covers the cost of instruction, refreshment breaks
and materials, but does not include the textbook. Participants may
register by mail, phone or fax.

E-52 to present two-act love story
     A love story in two acts will be presented this month and next by
the E-52 Student Theatre, in cooperation with the UD Hen Zone and by
special arrangement with Dramatists Play Services.
     The production is scheduled at 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays,
Feb. 23-24 and March 1-2, in the Bacchus Theatre at the Perkins
Student Center.
     The production is open to the public, and admission is $2.


Seminar on world issues this spring
     Seminars dealing with world issues will be held monthly on the
University's Wilmington campus, sponsored by the Master of Arts in
Liberal Studies (MALS) outreach program.
     The lectures, free and open to the public, are scheduled from 7-
8:30 p.m. in Room 105 of Arsht Hall. All will be presented by
University faculty.
     The first, "Cleaning Up After the Soviet Empire: The Case of the
Baltics," will be held on Wednesday, March 6. The lecture will be
given by Edmunds Bunkse, geography.
     The series continues on Wednesday, April 3, when Mark Miller,
political science and international relations, will speak on "Islam,
Terrorism and Western Democracy."
     The series concludes on Wednesday, May 1, with "Russia: What Can
the U.S. Do? What Should the U.S. Do?," presented by James Oliver,
political science and international relations, and David Shearer,
history.

Prof's. slide show about Vietnam
     Mark W. McLeod, history, will present a free, public slide show
and lecture entitled "Viet Nam: xua va nay/Vietnam: Yesterday and
Today" at 7 p.m., Monday, March 4, in Room 115 of Purnell Hall.
     The slides depict McLeod's trips to Vietnam in 1987 and 1995 and
cover topics such as regional diversity, religious traditions and
economic development.

Iceland Symphony in Mitchell Hall
     Osmo Vanska will direct the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in concert
at the University at 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26.
     The concert, to be held in Mitchell Hall, will feature Dvorak's
Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95, "From the New World"; Jon Leifs'
Galdra-Loftur Overture; and Sibelius' Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op.
43.
     Tickets for the UD concert are $5 for full-time UD
undergraduates, and $10 for others with UD identification and $15 for
the general public. Tickets are available at the Perkins Student
Center and the Bob Carpenter Center box offices, and through
Ticketmaster. A convenience charge may apply.
