Two new online services are available to library users
The University Library, with technical aupport from Information
Technologies, now offers two new services - WebDELCAT and Books I Have
Checked Out.
Both of these services became available Feb. 15 in the library,
and they are accessible through the campus network and from home.
WebDELCAT is a World Wide Web interface to DELCAT, the library's
online catalog. Users can now take advantage of a graphical interface
to search DELCAT. Records displayed on WebDELCAT include links to
perform author, title and subject searches with a single click.
WebDELCAT is available from the Library WWW home page, and the URL is:
http://www.mis.udel.edu/webdelcat.
Another new service, entitled Books I Have Checked Out, allows
users - as the name indicates - to determine what items they have
chacked out.
Books I Have Checked Out prompts users for their Social Security
and University PIN numbers and it generates a screen of all items that
the individual currently has checked out from the library. Books I
Have Checked Out requires a secure version of Netscape because the
user's Social Security and PIN numbers are sent over the network.
Secure versions of Netscape are available on the Software Distribution
section of U-Discover!
Books I Have Checked Out is available in the "Online Forms"
section of the Library's WWW home page.
According to Susan Brynteson, director of libraries, "The library
has been working for some time to provide the users with the ability
to view what books they have checked out without having to come
physically into the library. I think that library users will love the
Books I Have Checked Out service and use it often."
Library staff involved in the WebDELCAT and "Books I Have CHecked
Out" projects include Kristin Antelman, computing systems; John
Brunswick and David Langenberg, public services; and Gail Defendorf,
technical services. Information Technologies staff assistance was
provided by Thomas McDonald, Carol Falgiano and Bruce Raker, all of
Management Information Systems.
