'World Cinema' film series begins Tuesday in Georgetown
Five international films will be shown in the "World Cinema II"
series in Georgetown, sponsored by the University's Division of
Continuing Education, Parallel Program and Outreach Program.
All the films will be shown at 7 p.m., every other Tuesday night,
from Feb. 20-April 23, in Room 529 of the Higher Education Building in
Georgetown. All are free and open to the public.
The films will be introduced by Mark McLeod, history, and Ann
Colwell, University Parallel Program.
The scheduled films are:
* The Return of Martin Guerre, a French film with English
subtitles, that chronicles what happens when a peasant
returns to his family after a seven-year absence, based on
fact, Feb. 20;
* Throne of Blood, a Japanese film with English subtitles,
that is Akira Kurosawa's adaptation of Macbeth, March 5;
* Breaker Morant, an Australian film based on fact about
three soldiers who are court-martialed for their treatment
of prisoners during the Boer War, March 19;
* El Norte, a film in English and Spanish with English
subtitles, that portrays a sweeping saga of a brother and
sister who leave Guatemala in hopes of finding a better life
in America, April 9; and
* Au Revoir, Les Enfants, a French film with English subtitles
by the late Louis Malle, about the headmaster of a Catholic
boarding school who shelters Jewish children from the
Holocaust, April 23.
