Charlie B. Travels named UD's official travel agent

Charlie B. Travels/BTI Americas Inc. on Main Street in Newark is
now the University's official travel agent.
After a national bidding process, Charlie B. Travels has been
awarded the contract to provide all University travel services, Tory
Windley, director of purchasing, announced today.
"The implementation of a travel management program has been a
longtime goal, and we are pleased to be partnering with Charlie B.
Travels/BTI Americas Inc. on this project," she said. "There are
travel dollar savings and traveler conveniences that can only be
realized by consolidating our travel program."
Under the agreement, Charlie B. Travels will provide travel
services, including all flight, hotel, car rental and other related
arrangements, domestic and international, for employees, associates
and students traveling on University business, as well as vacation and
leisure travel arrangements for the entire University community.
Up to the present time, University departments have been making
business travel arrangements through various agencies and airlines.
Coordination with one agency, Windley said, is the first step toward
simplifying the travel practices and procedures. Better discounts and
incentives can be negotiated with airlines, hotels and rental car
companies, she said.
Electronic forms to authorize and request travel arrangements
from Charlie B. Travels are being developed, Windley said. In
addition, business airline and rail travel will be billed directly to
the University, not to the traveler's corporate or personal credit
card, reducing the number of cash advances, Windley explained.
Charlie B. Travels also will extend the same services and
discounted rates to employees or students when arranging personal
travel plans, Windley said. They must identify themselves as a
University faculty/ staff member or student when making the
reservation.
"Charlie Friswell and his staff are committed to making travel
easier and to providing managment information to help the University
achieve savings, but we need our travelers to use this contact for it
to be successful," Windley said.
Molly Froehlich, Charlie B. Travels representative, is available
to meet with University groups and individuals to answer questions
about services.
"The global strength of our agencies will allow us to provide the
University of Delaware with state-of-the-art travel management
services," Froehlich said, "as well as our 25-year tradition of
personal service from our Main Street location."
