Gala evening concert set Sept. 12
For an evening of musical variety and virtuosity, from opera to
jazz, music lovers should consider the sixth annual gala concert
presented by faculty ensembles and solo artists in the Department of
Music.
The free concert will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, in
the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building. Seating
is on a first-come, first-seated basis.
A meet-the-artist reception will be held after the concert in the
atrium area of the building.
Featured musical ensembles and artists include the Delaware
Brass, duo-pianists Michael Steinberg and Julie Nishimura, sopranos
Melanie DeMent and Marie Robinson, baritone Patrick Evans, the
Del'Arte Woodwind Quintet, the Taggart-Grycky Flute and Guitar Duo,
the Mendelssohn String Quartet, pianist Christine Delbeau, horn player
Cynthia Carr, the UD Faculty Jazz and marimba player Harvey Price.
The program will include such works as Five Hungarian Dances by
Brahms; the Act I trio from Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, Mrs. Ford's aria
from The Merry Wives of Windsor, Chopin's B-Flat minor Scherzo, Claude
Bolling's Picnic Suite, and compositions by Gershwin, Stephen Foster,
Dohnanyi, Taffanel and others.
