Two workshops scheduled to improve teaching the disabled

UDUAP will offer a workshop in Newark and Dover on recreation and
leisure for persons with disabilities and on effective teaching of
persons with disabilities.
The Recreation and Leisure Workshop will emphasize the need
persons with disabilities have to lead rich and full lives. In
addition to discussing teaching strategies appropriate to recreational
activities, the seminar will highlight effective strategies for
discovering an individual's preferences and for supporting them in
gaining exposure and acceptance in a range of leisure contexts.
The workshop, scheduled from 9 a.m.-2:15 p.m., will be offered on
Friday, Feb. 9, in the Dover Public Library on State Street, and on
Monday, Feb. 12 in Room 202 of Alison Hall in Newark.
The Effective Teaching Workshop will review the basics of
instruction, such as arranging cues and prompts, promoting
generalization and recording relevant and accurate data. Practical
pointers, such as embedding learning opportunities in natural routines
and making learning errorless, also will be discussed.
This workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be
offered on Friday, Feb. 23, at the Dover Public Library on State
Street, and on Monday, Feb. 26, in Room 202 of Alison Hall.
Registration fee for either seminar is $10 for the general
public.
