Skating author to talk, sign book
Christine Brennan, author of the new book Inside Edge: A
Revealing Journey into the Secret World of Figure Skating, will speak
and sign copies of her book at noon and 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, in
the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center.
The free public event is sponsored by the University Bookstore.
Brennan, a veteran sportswriter for the Washington Post, will give two
"Lunch With The Author" presentations, followed by question-and-answer
sessions about her experiences writing the book. She also will sign
copies of the hardcover book, which will be available for sale by the
UD Bookstore for $20.70, after her presentations. Those attending are
invited to bring their own lunch.
In her book, Brennan shows that a sport that may appear to be all
sequins and lace on the ice is as competitive and brutal as any game
played in the NFL. She examines today's stars and the inconsistent
standards of the judges. Inside Edge exposes the dark side of a sport
unparalleled for its beauty and refinement.
She has been a sportswriter for the Washington Post for 11 years,
specializing in the Olympics and international sports. A commentator
for National Public Radio, she also has appeared on ESPN, CNN and a
variety of network talk shows. Her UD appearance is part of a 10-city
book tour.
