Art conservation seminars scheduled this spring

     Beginning Feb. 8, the UD/ Winterthur Museum Art Conservation
Program will present a series of seminars by professionals from the
art world.
     Free and open to the public, the seminars are scheduled at 4
p.m., Thursdays, in the rotunda of museum, located on Route 52 in
Wilmington.
     Speakers and topics are listed below.

Feb. 8    Scott Odell, retired from the National Museum of American
          History, speaking on "Conservation of Musical Instruments";
Feb. 15   George Horse Capture, deputy director of cultural research
          at the National Museum of the American Indian, Bronx, N.Y.,
          speaking on "Issues of Care of Native American Material
          Culture";
Feb. 22   Cheryl la Roche, from John Milner Associates, speaking on
          "The Ethical Dilemma Facing Conservation: Care and Treatment
          of Human Skeletal Remains and Mortuary Objects";
Feb. 29   Faith Zieske, Philadelphia Museum of Art, speaking on
          "Cezanne's Watercolors and Sketchbooks";
March 7   Jose Orraca, photographic materials conservator in private
          practice, speaking on "Case Studies in Photographic
          Conservation";
March 21  Lucy Commoner, from the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, speaking on
          "Textile Storage at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum";
April 11  Sarah Wolf, from The Textile Museum, Washington, D.C.,
          speaking on "Rug Restoration Issues";
April 18  Lawrence P. Nees, UD professor of art history, speaking on
          "Conservation Issues in the Use of Rare Illuminated
          Manuscripts";
May 2     Steve Mellor, from the National Museum of African Art,
          Smithsonian Institution, speaking on "The Materials of
          African Art"; and
May 9     Dianne van der Reyden, Conservation Analytical Lab,
          Smithsonian Institution, speaking on "Current Projects in
          the CAL Paper Lab."
