E-52 to present 'Death & Maiden'
The E-52 Student Theatre will present Death and the Maiden, a
play by Ariel Dorfman, at 8 p.m., Friday through Sunday, Feb. 9-11,
and Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 15-17, on the Newark campus.
Set in a country just returning to democracy and recovering from
the crimes of a former regime, the play tells the story of a woman who
recognizes the voice of her former torturer as that of a friendly
stranger. She becomes ruthless in her revenge, often recreating what
had happened to her.
Death and a Maiden deals with such topics as long-term
repression, illusions of innocence and women in power. According to
The New York Times, it "is a play of ideas in the guise of a
political thriller... suspenseful, riveting, achieving a universality
that is movingly personal."
The production will be presented in Room 100 of Wolf Hall.
Admission is $5 for the general public and $4 for UD students, faculty
and staff.
