English prof. recognized for work on Romantic writers

Charles E. Robinson, English, is one of two to receive a
Distinguished Scholar Award from the Keats-Shelley Association of
America. Also honored was Emily Sunstein, a Mary Shelley biographer
from Philadelphia. The awards were presented Dec. 29 during the Modern
Language Association's three-day convention in Chicago.
Robinson received an engraved plaque, which honored his lifetime
work in Keats-Shelley studies and his published books on Shelley,
Byron and other Romantic writers. Making the introductory remarks on
Robinson's career was Betty T. Bennett, dean of the College of Arts
and Science at American University, who collaborated with Robinson on
the Mary Shelley Reader , published in 1990.
At the convention, Robinson also gave a lecture on a new edition
of Frankenstein manuscripts, on which he is working currently. A two-
volume edition of his research will be published this summer by
Garland Publishing.
Robinson has been teaching the novel Frankenstein at the
University for 30 years.
The Delaware Humanities Forum often sends him to area high
schools to teach the novel to high school seniors.
