Wellness February lectures to focus on healthy hearts
February is American Heart Month and the Employee Wellness Center
will offer a five-session Healthy Heart lecture series from Feb. 8-29
on campus.
The programs include:
* "Understanding How Your Heart Works," noon-1 p.m., Thursday,
Feb. 8, in the Ewing Room, Perkins Student Center. The session
will offer information on anatomy, physiology and healthy-heart
functioning.
* "Stress Management and Daily Concerns of Individuals with Heart
Disease," noon-1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15, in the Ewing Room,
Perkins Student Center. The session will address common daily
concerns facing individuals with heart disease and offer stress-
management strategies.
* "Women and Heart Disease" or "Men and Heart Disease," noon-1
p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, Ewing Room, Perkins Student Center.
Participants may choose between two sessions that address the
concerns and special issues that affect men and women and their
hearts and the physiologic differences between the sexes.
* "Nutrition and Heart Disease," noon-1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 23,
Kirkwood Room, Perkins Student Center. The session will help
participants learn how food choices can help prevent heart
disease. Topics will include cholesterol, dietary fat, label
reading and recipe modification.
* "Exercise and Your Heart," noon-1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 29, Blue
Ice Arena, Room 113. The session will address American College
of Sports Medicine guidelines for people with heart disease and
will review the effects of cardiac medication on exercise
response.
The cost of each session is $10 Wellness Dollars, or $25 Wellness
Dollars for those who sign up for three of the five sessions.
Employees who have used all their UD Wellness Dollars may pay for the
program in cash.
