Snow scene
Much of the campus was quiet during the "Snowstorm of the
Century" as the blizzard of '96 closed offices and cancelled classes.
During the storm, more than 150 UD employees, plus an additional 60
contract employees, removed approximately 200,000 cubic yards of snow
from roads, lots and walkways. Twenty-four UD vehicles with snow
plows, plus 10 snow blowers, three loaders and one Bobcat were in use
around-the-clock. Twelve backhoes and 22 dump trucks were hired to
haul snow to an area behind the Bob Carpenter Center and onto the
University's Morris Property outside Newark. Work started Sunday and
continued for several days under the direction of Tom Taylor, grounds,
and John Warren, custodial services.
