Four B&E alumni recognized for personal accomplishments

     Four alumni from the College of Business and Economics were
honored during the fall as the 1995 recipients of the college's Alumni
Award of Excellence.
     The award recognizes alumni who have exhibited excellence in
business and personal accomplishments. The criteria include career
achievement, contribution  to the business field, contribution to the
community and commitment to excellence.
     The recent recipients are Brian L. King, senior vice president of
First Maryland Bancorp in Baltimore and its principal subsidiary, the
First National Bank of Maryland; Robert J. Lipstein, partner
specializing in financial services with KPMG  Peat Marwick in
Philadelphia; Joseph R. Schmuckler, executive managing director of
Nomura Securities International Inc. in New York City; and Scott R.
Somerville, partner and head of the tax division of Arthur Andersen
LLP in Baltimore.
     King received his bachelor of science degree in business
administration from UD in 1969 and his MBA in labor relations, also
from UD, in 1970. He is married to Anne Lynn Simpson King, Delaware
'69.
     Lipstein received his bachelor of science degree in accounting
from UD in 1977. His involvement with the college includes membership
on the Accounting Advisory Board, teaching as an adjunct professor of
accounting for six years and providing consistent support for
Department of Accounting programs, including serving as a member of
the search committee for the current department chair.
     Schmuckler received a bachelor of science degree in business
administration, financial management, from UD in 1982. He earned a
master of business administration degree in finance from New York
University in 1992.
     Somerville received a bachelor of science degree in accounting
from UD in 1976, graduating magna cum laude. He currently heads the
Arthur Andersen University of Delaware Contribution Program and
monitors the firm's chair of accounting at UD.
