Saturday math offered for kids
Students in first through eighth grades are eligible to enroll in
the University's Saturday Morning Math program, which is designed to
enrich mathematical experiences in ways not normally emphasized in
school. Problem-solving strategies and computer programming are used
to encourage interest in mathematics.
Registration is now under way for the six consecutive sessions
beginning Saturday, Jan 6. Those enrolling have a choice of three
sections: 8:30-10 a.m.; 10:15-11:45 a.m. and noon to 1:30 p.m.
Cost is $40 per student for any six-week session. Enrollment is
limited, and students are registered on a first-paid, first-served
basis.
Classes will be taught by Martie McCormick, program coordinator,
a teacher with experience in kindergarten through ninth grades, and
Yvonne Aluise, a teacher of third, fourth and fifth grade Chapter One
mathematics. Classes will be held in the Mathematical Sciences
Teaching and Learning Center in 006A Pearson Hall.
Another session begins on Feb. 24, with registration opening Feb.
13. Different material is covered in each set of classes.
