Winterfest '95 set on Dec. 16

     An old-fashioned, community holiday gathering, "Winterfest 95,"
is scheduled from 1-7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, in the downtown Newark
business district. The rain date for outdoor events is Dec. 17.
     The event's Winter Wonderland Craft Fair, including a children's
craft-making program, will be held all day indoors at the United
Methodist Church on Main Street, rain or shine.
     Other activities of the day include carriage rides, a 4-H petting
zoo, roasted chestnuts for sale, store and restaurant specials,
roaming carolers, bell choirs, a nonperishable food drive, a mitten
and hat tree and holiday tree and greens sales. Refreshments will be
provided by the UD.
     Special events include ice sculpting at 2:30 p.m., a tree
lighting ceremony and caroling at 4:30 p.m., followed by a bonfire and
holiday tales by a storyteller at 5:30 p.m. All these will take place
in the Academy and Main streets area.
     "Winterfest 95" is sponsored by the city of Newark, the Newark
Business Association and the University of Delaware.
