Status of minority scholarships

In light of political developments and legislative action before
the current U.S. Congress, questions may arise regarding the
University of Delaware's position on scholarships for minority
students.
According to University Provost Mel Schiavelli, the University
has not received notice of changes to existing regulations that govern
the awarding of scholarships to students designated by the federal
government as "underrepresented."
This category includes African-American, Native American and
Hispanic students.
There is not any change contemplated in the University's goal to
educate increased numbers of students from underrepresented groups.
Indeed, Schiavelli said, the University is "rightfully proud" of the
educational attainments of its minority students and "entirely
grateful" to the governments, foundations, corporations and
individuals who have provided scholarship support specifically for
minority students.
"Moreover, so long as it is legal to do so," he said, "this
institution will aggressively seek and happily accept scholarship
support needed to help current and future minority students meet their
educational goals."
