'Carols in Color' in Mitchell Hall
"Carols in Color," a holiday dance musical celebration directed
by Leon Evans and performed by ELEONE and other artists, will be
presented at 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1, in Mitchell Hall.
Tickets are $7 for UD students, $10 for UD faculty and staff and
senior citizens and $12 for the public.

History prof. to speak on Russia
"Whither Russia" is the subject of a talk by David Shearer,
history, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Arsht Hall on the University's
Wilmington Campus.
The free public lecture is part of the UD College of Arts and
Science Outreach series on "Issues at the End of the Millennium."
E-52 production begins on Friday
The E-52 Student Theatre will present Harvey Fierstein's Torch
Song Trilogy at 7 p.m., Friday through Sunday, Dec. 1-3, and Thursday
through Saturday, Dec. 7-9, with a special 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday,
Dec. 3.
All performances will be presented in Room 100 of Wolf Hall.
Tickets-at $4 each-will be available at the door and in advance
at special tables set up in the Perkins Student Center.

Workshops set on diversity, conflict
A half-day workshop on "Welcoming and Appreciating Diversity"
will be offered from 8 a.m.- noon, Monday, Dec. 4, in the Collins Room
of the Perkins Student Center.
The session will show participants how to identify misinformation
about ourselves and others, as well as how to heal emotional wounds
resulting from mistreatment.
From 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 13, a session on "Conflict
Management: Finding the Common Ground" will be presented in the
Collins Room of the Perkins Student Center.
This session will help participants move through their
differences toward positions that everyone is able to support.
Learning how to find the common ground is an important step in
bringing people together both in and out of the classroom.
The workshops are sponsored by the Diversity Education Task Force
and the Center for Teaching Effectiveness. They are open to student
faculty and employees.
Those interested in the "Conflict Management" session must have
attended the full-day session on "Welcoming and Appreciating
Diversity."

Carol Brown to present a recital
Carol Brown, principal flute with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra
since 1985 and also principal flute with the Harrisburg Symphony, will
present a free recital at 8, tonight, in the Loudis Recital Hall of
the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.
The program will feature works by Koechlin, J.S. Bach, Beethoven
and Copland. Pianist for the recital is Julie Nishimura, and Jon
Gaarder is bassoonist.

Copyright issues focus of program
Lauryn Guttenplan Grant, assistant general counsel of the
Smithsonian Institution, will speak on "Copyright Issues Facing
Museums in an Electronic Age," at 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1, in Room 202
of Old College.
A graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, Grant advises all
Smithsonian museums on matters relating to contracts, intellectual
property, tax and repatriation and advises the National Museum of the
American Indian on legal matters.
The program, one of the Museum Studies Program's Fall Forum
lectures, is cosponsored by the Department of Art Conservation.
UD connection in the 'Nutcracker'
Two dancers affiliated with the University will perform lead
roles in the Delaware Dance Company's performance of the Nutcracker.
Allyson Cohen, a junior in elementary education, who has been
dancing with the company for 16 years, is cast as the Sugar Plum
Fairy, and Scott F. Mason, assistant director of the Student Center,
will perform the role of Herr Drosselmeyer for his 10th year with the
dance company and his fourth performance in this role.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8; 2 p.m. and
7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9; and 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10. Call 738-2023.
