IBM recalls some monitors
IBM has discovered that some of its 9527 color monitors may have
been assembled improperly. As a result, if the monitor is not properly
grounded, users may experience electrical shock.
Although no incidents of shock have been reported, IBM will
repair any affected monitor quickly and at no charge to the current
user or owner.
The affected models were sold after Sept. 28, 1993, and are
identified as the 9527-0001 (17P), 9527-005 (17XG), 9527-011 (17P),
9527-015 (17XG), 9527-T01 (17PT) and 9527-T21 (17PT).
Monitor numbers can be located inside the pull-down panel on the
front of the monitor or on the back of the monitor on the information
label.
Anyone with one of these monitors should call the University's
Department of Occupational Health and Safety at 831-8475.
