B & G schedule
     The Blue and Gold Club will close on Thursday, Nov. 23, for
Thanksgiving recess. Regular hours of operation will resume at 11:30
a.m., Monday, Nov. 27.


Preproposals due
     The Sea Grant College Program is soliciting preproposals for the
period from Feb. 1, 1997, through Jan. 31, 1999.
     Preproposals are needed in the general areas of marine
biotechnology, coastal processes/ engineering, environmental studies,
fisheries and aquaculture and marine policy.

     Submission deadline is Dec. 1.


Dance information
     The University Ballroom Dance Club is sponsoring a holiday dinner
dance from 8-11 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 30, in the Carpenter Sports
Building. Music will be provided by the Ronny Drake Quartet.
     Cost is $10 for students and $20 for the general public.
Reservation deadline is Nov. 29. Proceeds benefit the club.
     The club also is presenting country line dancing on Friday, Nov.
17, at Charles and Leslie Hoefgen's Dance Studio, in the Shops of
Limestone Hills, near the intersection of Limestone Road and Route 7.
     Lessons begin at 8 p.m. Open dancing will take place from 9-11:30
p.m. Cost, which includes light refreshments, is $4 for students and
$6 for the general public.

Fighting hunger
     The Hola club is sponsoring a party Share Our Strength, an annual
program of readings to help fight hunger, will be presented at 7 p.m.,
Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Room 110 of Memorial Hall.
     Various artists of the University and Newark
communities-including faculty, undergraduates and graduate
students-will read from their original works. Participants will
include Fleda Jackson, Devon Miller-Duggan, Kathrine Varnes, Michelle
Lisi, Jessica Gold, David Robinson and others.
     Cost is $3 for students with UD ID and $5 for others.

Warehouse sale
     Housing and Conference Services will offer for sale approximately
100 surplus pieces of residence hall furniture from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday
and Wednesday, Nov. 14-15.
     The sale will take place in the Housing Warehouse, 2626 Ogletown
Rd., off Route 273, east of Newark.
     Drive past the underpass near Avon, turn left onto the stone
drive at the signs "Deshong & Sons," "Wegman" and "Josie's"; and
follow the road back to the metal-frame buildings.
     Some of the items for sale and their approximate prices include
40 oak desks at $40 each; 10 maple dressers at $20 each; assorted
corner and end tables, starting at $25; and two three-seater sofas at
$20, plus executive desks, pine benches and metal storage wardrobes.
     Terms are cash and carry, first-come, first-served and same-day
removal.

Navy game
     Listen to Dave Telep and the WVUD sports department on Saturday,
Nov. 11, as they present live coverage of the football game between
Delaware and Navy.
     Live coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. at 91.3 FM.
     Also listen to WVUD's live, call-in sports talk show, "Blue Hen

Craft show
     The first weekend of the 19th annual Holiday Crafts Show will be
held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11 and 12, in
Arsht Hall on the Wilmington campus.
     The second weekend will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday and
Sunday, Nov. 25 and 26, in Clayton Hall.
     Admission is $1 per person. Children under 12 and UD staff with
ID will be admitted for free.


Comic books
     A superhero comic book show will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.,
Sunday-Tuesday, Nov. 12-14, in the Perkins Student Center.
     The show will feature comics, sport cards, videos and toys.
     A card sorting contest will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 12.

Women's Club sale
     The University of Delaware Women's Club will present the 19th
annual Holiday Handcraft Sale from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16,
and 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, in the Gallery of the Perkins
Student Center.
     A variety of handmade jewelry, toys, holiday decorations and
ornaments will be available.
     The event is open to the public. All proceeds support
scholarships for returning female students. For information, call Joy

Open hearing
     An open hearing will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, in 201
McDowell Hall to discuss a proposal to grant permanent status to the
major in foreign languages and literatures.
     The event is being conducted by the Faculty Senate Committee on
Undergraduate Studies.
