How to use the White Pages

To find information from the White Pages, users must utilize the
finger command along with the name of the individual in the form,
'firstname.middle-initial.lastname.'
For example, if you're looking for Sedgwick Crumbcake's telephone
number, type

        finger Sedgwick.I.Crumbcake

If X.500 doesn't find a unique match, it will return a list of
possible matches. Information contained in the database about an
individual will be displayed unless that individual has suppressed the
information.
The X.500 Directory Service also is used by the mail system to
handle messages that are addressed to individuals by name rather than
by login ID.
For instance, a person can now send mail to
"Sedgwick.I.Crumbcake@udel.edu." If one enters a name that is not
unique, the mail system will send the message back along with a list
of possible matches.
