Bill Wood honored by Royal Society

The Faraday Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry selected
Robert Wood (left), chemistry and biochemistry, as the R.A. Robinson
Memorial lecturer, an honor bestowed every second year and never
before to a scientist in the United States.
Named in honor of the British pioneer in the investigation of the
properties of aqueous salt solutions, the award was, in previous
years, presented to an outstanding scientist working in electrolyte
solutions who was a resident of Southeast Asia or the United Kingdom.
This year, for the first time, the award was made without regard
to the country of residence. Wood accepted the award and presented the
R.A. Robinson Memorial Lecture Sept. 6 at the autumn meeting of the
Royal Chemical Society in Sheffield, England. On behalf of the
society, Michael Pilling (right), secretary of the Faraday Division,
presented the medal and an honorarium of 500 pounds sterling.
