BET cohost to lecture in student center Nov. 14

     A lecture by Angela Stribling, cohost of Black Entertainment
Television's entertainment review program Screen Scene, is scheduled
for 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, in the Rodney Room of the Perkins
Student Center.
     Her free public talk, entitled "Overcoming Myths and
Misperceptions in the Black Community," is part of the University's
"Breaking Through" program series.
     In addition to her work at BET, Stribling is also a cohost of WJZ-
TV's On Time, a weekly magazine show featuring public affairs,
entertainment and consumer news. She also narrates one-minute
historical vignettes ("Cameos of Black Women") for the Sheridan
Broadcasting Network.
     Stribling began her career in advertising sales for several
television and radio stations. Since then she has appeared in The
Distinguished Gentleman with Eddie Murphy and a television movie A Man
Called Hawk. She also has appeared in a number of commercials and
corporate training and sales video presentations.
     Stribling has earned several awards for her work, including the
Outstanding Woman in the Media Award in 1991 in her hometown of
Buffalo, N.Y., and a certificate as an outstanding professional in
1988 from Washington's Business Exchange Network. Stribling also was
nominated "Best New Talent" by the Achievement in Radio Awards in
1989.
     Her Newark appearance is cosponsored by the Office of Affirmative
Action, the Center for Black Culture and the Cultural Programming
Advisory Board.
