Learn about recipe modification
Our eating habits develop over many, many years. To change them
drastically is difficult, at best. Given the strong link between diet
and disease, however, it is prudent to work toward improving food
choices.
One of the most common reasons cited for ignoring dietary
guidelines is the belief that one must "give up" favorite foods.
According to Marianne Carter, R.D., an Employee Wellness staff
member, this simply is not true.
Many of the recipes that people are accustomed to enjoying can be
modified to fit into dietary guidelines. Often, minor ingredient
substitutions dramatically improve the nutritional content of the food
without decreasing taste as do texture substitutions, such as using
eggwhites in place of eggs and applesauce instead of oil. These
changes can easily fit into normal food preparation techniques.
To learn more ways to improve nutrition, plan to attend an
Employee Wellness program on "Altering Recipes for Good Health." The
program will be held from 12:10-12:50 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10, in the
Blue and Gold Room of the Perkins Student Center.
Cost for the program is 10 Wellness Dollars. Registration is
available at the door, or call 831-8729 to make a reservation.
