PC purchase program scheduled
The University of Delaware 1995-96 employee computer purchase
program will begin Sept. 11. Permanent employees who receive full
benefits coverage are eligible to participate and will receive in
Campus Mail, by Sept. 1, a booklet outlining the program.
The purchase program, which runs through March 15, will offer:
* Interest-free payroll deduction, with installment payments
for up to 36 months, depending upon the amount of purchase,
ranging from $250 to $5,000;
* A 5 percent discount for those who decide to pay for their
equipment in full at the time of purchase;
* The latest in computer hardware, software, new systems and
existing system upgrades, all to be purchased from the
University's Computer Warehouse; and
* Pre-purchase consulting assistance from the Technology
Solutions Center (formerly the Microcomputing Resource
Center) staff in Smith Hall, or via e-mail to tsc-
info@udel.edu.
To verify eligibility, an employee will need to call extension
3266 using a Touch Tone phone, and enter his or her Social Security
Number and Personal Identification Number (PIN). Instructions will
lead the caller through the eligibility confirmation process and
provide information on how to proceed. The Computer Warehouse will be
notified of the individual's eligibility automatically.
According to President David P. Roselle, "The response to earlier
programs confirmed that many employees find there is increasing value
in individual ownership" of computers. He said he hopes the new
program will be viewed as an attractive opportunity for upgrades or
first-time purchases.
Susan Foster, vice president for information technologies, said,
"The employee computer purchase program offers the opportunity to
purchase state-of-the-art systems for personal use.
"Employees who have new or recently upgraded computers can choose
from many new peripherals and software to enhance their systems and
learn new skills."
According to Leila Lyons, director of Information Technologies,
User Services, "Employees will be able to get up-to-date information
on current and planned products from the University's home page on the
World Wide Web. This will help those interested make an informed
choice as they participate in the program."
The booklet will provide details on the program and eligibility,
as well as the procedures for placing an order and initiating payroll
deductions.
