Opening reception is Sept. 5

     A special opening reception, a series of brown-bag luncheon
events and two special children's activities are scheduled at the
University Gallery in conjunction with the Laszlo Moholy-Nagy
exhibition, which formally opens Tuesday, Sept. 5. A reception is
planned from 4:30-7 p.m. in the gallery with special guest Eva Bajkay,
head of the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Hungarian
National Gallery, Budapest.
     The children's events, "Wholly Moholy!," are scheduled from 1-3
p.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 28 and Nov. 11. Both sessions are designed to
help children, ages 6-12, explore creative design and learn basic
design principles in hands-on workshops. Material fee is $5 per child
and free for accompanying adults. Space is limited and reservations
can be made by calling 831-8242.
     A special "Wholly Moholy!" hands-on room will be open to the
public throughout the run of the exhibition.
     The brown bag luncheon events, which are free and open to the
public, will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on selected Tuesdays
during the run of the exhibit. Specific dates and events include:
        * Selections from Hungarian composers Ernst von Dohnanyi (1877-
          1960) and Bela Bartok (1881-1945) performed by the
          Mendelssohn String Quartet, Tuesday, Sept. 19. This program
          is co-sponsored by the Department of Music.
        * "Moholy-Nagy's Portrait Series," a discussion and gallery
          tour by curatorial assistant Pamela J. Warner, Tuesday, Oct.

        * Screening of selected films by Moholy-Nagy, Tuesday, Oct.
          31.
        * Readings of the artist's poetry in Hungarian by Anna Duz-
          Moore, with English translations by Katherine Varnes,
          Tuesday, Nov. 14.
        * "Moholy-Nagy's Military Postcards," a gallery tour with
          Chapp, Dec. 5.
