Non-smoking policy in effect
With the start of the fall semester, University employees and
students will notice new signs designating authorized smoking sites
outside academic, administrative, recreation and classroom buildings.
On the recommendation by the Faculty Senate Executive Committee
last spring, the interior of all University-owned or occupied
buildings, University-owned vehicles, and at least one entrance to
each building are now smoke free.
Smoking is permitted outside one designated entrance to those
buildings with more than one entrance.
According to Tom Vacha, facilities, University facilities
personnel recently placed international no-smoking symbols (a
cigarette in a circle with a diagonal line across it) on the entrance
doors of University buildings, except student housing and other
residential areas that are exempt from the policy.
In addition, signs stating "Designated Smoking Area" will be
placed near the one, approved smoking site outside each campus
building.
