Blue Hens' away games on TV
Arrangements are being made to broadcast five away football games
during the 1995 Blue Hen season through a partnership between WDEL
News Talk 1150-AM and TCI Cablevision of New Castle County.
The games will be seen on TCI Cablevision's Channel 2 in New
Castle County. Clearance in other areas of Delaware and surrounding
states is being negotiated.
Rights have been cleared for the four Yankee Conference away
games: Boston University, Sept. 23; Northeastern University, Sept. 30;
James Madison University, Oct. 21; and Rhode Island University, Nov.
18. Broadcast rights for the game at the U.S. Naval Academy on Nov. 11
are still being negotiated.
The broadcast team of Don Voltz and Bill Pheiffer will simulcast
the away games with the Blue Hen Radio Network originated by WDEL,
which will broadcast the entire 1995 football schedule.
According to Edgar Johnson, UD athletic director, "The 1995
television schedule provides another avenue for exposure for our
football program. Our fans have enjoyed the best radio coverage in our
conference, and now we can provide another dimension for those who
can't travel with the team."
"We're ready for some football," Jon Danielson, general manager
of TCI Cablevision, said. "We're really pleased to be able to provide
these games to our customers and to enhance our local programming on
Cable Channel 2."
Peter Booker, Delaware '75, WDEL president and general manager,
said, "We're very excited to bring the quality and depth of coverage
of our radio broadcasts to the medium of television. We look to our
partnership with TCI on this project as a foundation for more
cooperative ventures."
The cablecasts, which will begin 30 minutes before game time,
will include a pregame show and a postgame wrap-up program hosted by
Jim Hayes, TCI sports director.
