Golden Knights to fly high during Parents' Day game

     The U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team will make a return
visit to the skies above Delaware Stadium Saturday, Oct. 29,
performing at half-time during the football game against Northeastern
University, as part of annual Parents' Day festivities. While in the
air, the Golden Kights will form a variety of patterns and geometrical
shapes before separating and aiming their landing toward a bull's-eye
to be plaed on the 50-yard line.
     Also scheduled are lectures, entertainment, exhibitions and
sporting events that will be part of the full day of activities.
     Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center,
where guests will be welcomed by deans, administrators and student
life personnel. Until 11:30 a.m., there will be an on-going computer
demonstration at a multimedia kiosk, showing the Internet network and
information technologies used on the campus. A presentation on
graduate study at the University and opportunities for graduate and
professional study at other institutions will be held from 9-10 a.m.
     Remarks by President David P. Roselle at 10 a.m. will be followed
by a pre-game performance by the University of Delaware Marching Band,
cheerleaders and the Precision Dance Team.  YoUDee, the University's
Blue Hen mascot, also will be on hand.
     From 10:45-11:30 a.m., parents will have the choice of attending
two different events: an information session on study-abroad
opportunities or an overview of the current employment market and what
this may mean for students.
     A pre-football game luncheon is planned from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at
the Delaware Field House.
     The University's Fightin' Blue Hens will take on Northeastern
University at 1 p.m. in Delaware Stadium.
     For those who are not football fans, two photography exhibits by
Sandro Oramas will be open from noon to 5 p.m. at the University
Gallery in Old College.  From 1:30-4 p.m., a guided tour of the
University's permanent collection of minerals, gems, carved stones and
rare specimens will be conducted in Penny Hall.
     The Center for Black Culture will hold an open house from 4-7
p.m.  Included will be a presentation on the black organizations on
campus.
     A buffet dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m. in the Perkins
Student Center.
     Two performances of a Song Fest at 4:30 and 9 p.m. in Pearson
Hall will bring together all the UD vocal ensembles for a presentation
of their most delightful selections.  Featured will be the Gospel
Ensemble, the Golden Blues, the Deltones, the D Sharps and the Hen
Harmonicas. Tickets are required as seating is limited.
     The Professional Theatre Training Program will present Moliere's
The Learned Ladies at 7:30 p.m. at the Hartshorn Theatre. Tickets are
available by phone at 831-2204 or in person at the Hartshorn box
office.
