                        FOR SALARIED STAFF ONLY

Salaried Staff Career Development Certificate Program
     This is a six-part series for salaried staff highlighting a
systematic approach for assessing interest in career development and
formulating strategies to achieve those goals. Utilizing resources
available through the Office of Employee Services and other University
departments, participants will explore the steps involved in creating
a personalized plan for career enrichment. Those attending sessions
will receive a certificate of completion.
     Seminar topics are listed below. Complete descriptions may be

                     FOR ALL UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES

Organization of University
     Career development at the University requires extensive knowledge
of how the various units within the institution fit together. Learn
what different departments do, how they relate to one another and
their academic and administrative reporting lines. This is also an
excellent program for new employees to get acquainted with how the
University is organized.
     Date: Thursday, Nov. 17
     Time: 8:45-11:30 a.m.

Writing With Confidence
     This two-part course is designed for managers who regularly write
memos, letters, reports, etc. In addition to reviewing some grammar
and punctuation issues, the course will focus on effective writing
techniques-including determining the audience, keeping the reader
interested, generating accurate information, choosing the appropriate
style, staying on the subject, building confidence and writing
concisely.
     Dates: Wednesdays, Nov. 9 and 16
     Time: 8:30 a.m.-noon

ADA seminars
     In 1990, Congress enacted the Americans with Disabilities Act
(ADA) that prohibits discrimination against individuals with
disabilities in employment, public transportation, telecommunications
and access to public programs and services.
     This includes access to public and private college and university
programs and services. The Employee Services staff, in conjunction
with the ADA coordinator, is offering a seminar to inform you of the
ADA's employment provisions. Discussion will focus on employment-
related issues, such as hiring, promotion, pay, benefits, layoffs and
assignments. In addition, recent interpretation of the "reasonable
accommodation" aspect of ADA will be discussed.
