On the job

My main job is to line the field, but I also do repairs, make the
parking signs, carry out work orders and set up for 11 women's and 12
men's sports. After the three days it takes to line the football
field, I always take a few minutes to inspect the field from the top
of the stands. I get a feeling of pride when I see how the finished
product looks, especially the interlocking blue and gold UD in the
middle. After a game, I often hear people trying to figure out how the
grass between every five lines gets to be two different colors. Paint
is not the secret, but a roller. We roll one way to bring the lighter
top blade to the surface, then we roll the other way to bring the
darker, bottom blade to the surface. This process creates the green
striping. I've been doing this job for 12 years and I enjoy every
minute of it, but I must say that the compliments I get from players,
coaches and fans are what make this job as enjoyable as it is.
