Computer Resource Persons to be recognized Oct. 28

Computer Resource Person (CRP) Recognition Day, sponsored by
Employee Development and User Services will be held Friday, Oct. 28,
in the Rodney Room of the Perkins Student Center.
The CRP program was developed almost four years ago after a task
force determined there was a need for troubleshooting of computer
software and hardware problems within departments. CRPs now provide
assistance for faculty and staff in over 130 academic and
administrative offices.
CRPs help their departments to use word processing,
spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail and communications software;
to install microcomputer software and assemble microcomputer units and
printers; and to understand the resources available to staff for
training, consulting and maintenance support.
Each CRP has a mentor in User Services who assists in resolving
computing questions. Information is sent to CRPs through CRPnews, a
Bulletin Board on EMC2 and posted to the cns.crp-mentors newsgroup on
the UNIX systems.
"CRP Recognition Day is a time when CRPs can network with other
CRPs, mentors and managers," said Janet de Vry, User Services. "The
CRPs then go back to their departments and share what they've
learned."
Sessions at this year's CRP Recognition Day are Preventative
Health Care for Your Computer, Your Computer-Your Personal Assistant,
Using Mosaic to Explore Internet Resources, Creating Independence in
Computer Users and A Glimpse at New Software.
A lunchtime panel discussion, "Electronic Forms: On-Line
Simplicity," will focus on using electronic forms at the University.
"CRPs are given an opportunity to learn more about electronic forms at
a time when the use of such forms is becoming increasingly important,"
de Vry said.
Preregistration is required. To register, call Alba Bates at
831-2059 or send e-mail to Alba.Bates@mvs.udel.edu.
