Professor emerita honored
A tribute to the career of Frances K. Graham, University of
Delaware professor emerita in psychology, was held in Atlanta Oct. 5-6
preceding the 33rd annual Meeting of the Society of
Psychophysiological Research (SPR).
The tribute took the form of a daylong scientific meeting in
which distinguished scientists from around the world spoke about their
current research and how it has been shaped and influenced by Graham's
teachings and other scholarly activity.
The second day, a symposium for the full membership of SPR was
held highlighting Graham's influence on the scientific activity of the
society, which she once served as president.
A contract is currently being finalized with publisher Lawrence
Erlbaum to develop an edited volume of contemporary theoretical and
empirical chapters from international scholars whose work in
attention, cognition and emotion has been shaped, in part, by Graham's
work in developmental and cognitive psychophysiology.
Graham joined the University as a research professor in
psychology in 1986. She had previously served on the faculty of the
University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she had joint appointments in
the departments of psychology and the medical school's pediatrics
department.
Graham's distinguished scholarly career won her election to the
National Academy of Science in 1988.
Highlights of her career include serving as president of SPR in
1973-74, of the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) from
1975-77 and as president of the Physiological and Comparative
Psychology Division of the American Psychological Association (APA)
from 1978-79. Graham lives in Newark.
