Charles Dickens readings Nov. 1
     Philip Collins, professor emeritus at the University of
Leicester, will present readings from the works of Charles Dickens at
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1, in 110 Memorial Hall.
     Collins has published extensively on Victorian authors,
especially Dickens. He also is a distinguished amateur actor, well-
known for his readings from works in which Dickens himself performed.
     Sponsored by the Department of English, the program is free and
open to the public.

Alternative band to perform Oct. 30
     Top alternative band The Jesus and Mary Chain will headline a
show at the Bob Carpenter Center at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30.
     Tickets are on sale at the Perkins Student Center and Bob
Carpenter Center box offices and through TicketMaster. A convenience
charge may apply. Prices are $18 for the general public, $10 for full-
time UD undergraduates with UD#1 Card (limit four), $14 for other
members of the University community.
     The Jesus and Mary Chain has a new release, Stoned and Dethroned,
that is doing well on the college/ alternative chart in Billboard.
     Very special guest for the concert will be Mazzy Star, currently
touring in support of So Tonight That I Might See, and also appearing
is Velvet Crush, whose latest release is Teenage Symphonies to God.
     The concert is sponsored by the Student Center Program Advisory
Board at the University.

Olympic medalists in arena ice show
     Olympic gold medalists Oksana Gritschuk and Evgeny Platov will be
featured in an ice show, scheduled for 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 23, at the
University's Blue Ice Arena.
     Included on the program will be World Team members and the
University of Delaware's finest skaters.
     General seating tickets, at $12 for adults and $8 for children 12
and under, will be on sale starting Oct. 10 at the Blue Ice Arena
office. Special patron tickets at $25 will include a pre-show
reception with the Olympians at 4:30 p.m. and special seating at the
show.

Computer sale and show Sunday
     MarketPro Inc., a long-time producer of computer shows, will be
present a computer show and sale from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Sunday,
Oct. 16, in the Bob Carpenter Center.
     Discount prices will offered on IBM, IBM-compatible and Macintosh
computer equipment, printers, scanners, modems, expansion cards,
drivers, cables and connectors, software, drives and discs, supplies,
accessories and related services, some at savings of up to 90 percent.
     Tickets are available at $6 at the door, $4 for students with a
UD#1 Card.

HTAC to present 'Anne Frank'
     The Harrington Theatre Arts Company will present The Diary of
Anne Frank at 8 p.m., tonight and Friday, Oct. 13-14, and at 2 p.m. on
Saturday, Oct. 15. All performances will take place in the auditorium
at Newark High School.
     Directed by Tami Willens, the play follows the day-to-day
existence of two Jewish families sharing an attic hideaway during
World War II in Amsterdam.
     The entire text is adapted from the real-life diary of the
apartment's youngest inhabitant, the teenager Anne Frank.
     Tickets, at $5 for adults, $4 for UD students and $3 for Newark
High School students, may be purchased between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at
the Perkins Student Center.

'The Wiz' musical in Wolf Hall
     The Wiz, the musical adapted from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,
will be presented by the Black Student Theatre at 8 p.m., Thursday and
Friday, Oct. 28-29; and Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5, in the
auditorium of Wolf Hall.
     An additional matinee performance is scheduled for 2 p.m.,
Saturday, Nov. 5.
     Tickets, at $4 for students and $6 for the general public, are
available at the box office in the Perkins Student Center and at the
Bob Carpenter Center

Music ensembles in Loudis Hall
     The University Wind Ensemble will present a free program at 8
tonight featuring the music of Hindemith, Persichetti, Wagner and Ron
Nelson.
     At 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, the Jazz Ensemble II will offer a
free concert with selections by Miles Davis, Cole Porter, Herbie
Hancock and Dizzy Gillespie, among others.
     Both concerts will be presented in the Loudis Recital Hall of the
Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

Two comedians in Pearson Hall show
     The Comedy Bomb, starring Chris Tucker and Terry Hodges, will be
presented at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, in the Pearson Hall
auditorium.
     The comedy concert is sponsored by the Cultural Programming
Advisory Board of the Center for Black Culture and Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity, and tickets are $10 in advance at the box offices at the
Perkins Student Center or the Bob Carpenter Center, and $12 at the
door on the evening of the performance. Mail orders may be sent to:

     Tucker has appeared on HBO's Def Comedy Jam, The Arsenio Hall
Show and the Soul Train Comedy Awards, as well as Hangin' with Mr.

Computer show in gallery of Perkins
     A Computer Exposition will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday,
Oct. 20, in the Gallery of the Perkins Student Center.
     The event, sponsored by the University's Computer Warehouse, will
present manufacturer representatives who will introduce and
demonstrate the latest computer equipment from Apple, Hewlett Packard,
Sun Microsystems, Zenith and others.
