Kathryn Woods in one-woman play
The one-woman play, A Woman Ain't I, about abolitionist Sojourner
Truth and starring Kathryn Woods, will be presented at 7:30 p.m.,
Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the auditorium of Pearson Hall.
Sold into slavery at a young age, Sojourner Truth, later in life,
joined other notable abolitionists such as Frederick Douglass and
Harriet Tubman as a crusader for God and human rights.
Using a text based on Truth's own words, Woods has recreated
scenes from her life, as she journeyed through pre- and post-Civil War
America, preaching against slavery and for the rights of women.
Woods has acted in Boston for 16 years. Her credits include
performances with Theatreworks, People's Theatre, The Wheelock Family
Theatre and the Underground Railway Theater. She also has performed in
Moscow and at the Edinburgh Arts Festival.
Tickets are available at the box offices of the Perkins Student
Center and the Bob Carpenter Center.
The program is sponsored by the Cultural Programming Advisory
Board of the Center for Black Culture. For more information, call
