Three University faculty receive Fulbright grants
Three University faculty have been named recipients of Fulbright
grants during the 1994-95 academic year.
The award recipients are John Byrne, director of the Center for
Energy and Environmental Policy in the College of Urban Affairs and
Public Policy, William Markell, professor emeritus of accounting in
the College of Business and Economics and Nancy Schweda Nicholson,
associate professor in the Department of Linguistics Conference
Interpretation Program.
Byrne will present lectures and conduct research at Seoul
National University in Korea from February through June 1995. Byrne's
expertise is in energy and environmental policy and sustainable
development.
Markell will be teaching financial accounting and consulting with
other faculty in the College of Business at Matej Bel University in
Banka Bystrica, Slovak Republic. His visit is part of the East
European Initiatives Lectureships program, and he plans to be in the
country from September 1994 through February 1995.
Nicholson will lecture and conduct research in translation and
interpretation at Aarhus School of Business in Denmark from January
through June 1995. Her field of expertise is linguistics.
The Fulbright grants, administered by the United States
Information Agency, are awarded by the J. William Fulbright Foreign
Scholarship Board on the basis of national competition. They represent
a significant part of the federal government's commitment to
international educational exchange. All applicants undergo rigorous
peer review, a process conducted by the Council for International
Exchange of Scholars.
