SERVICE AND AWARDS

     John Mackenzie, food and resource economics, conducted two "hands-
     on" short courses in Geographic Information Systems, June 20-24
     and Aug. 22-26, for state and county employees to raise funds for
     an undergraduate scholarship honoring former chairperson Gerald
     Cole.

     Richard T. Sylves, political science and international relations,
     received the Petak Award for best paper on disaster policy or
     emergency management presented at the annual American Society for
     Public Administration conference.

     Patricia Drake, nursing, coordinated the program, "Short
