University to promote Hispanic employment
A new program has been initiated with the Wilmington Latin
American Community Center to promote the University as a place of
employment for members of the Hispanic community. Working in concert
with Idalie Munoz, the center's executive director, the University's
Employee Development unit will offer a seminar to help potential
applicants with resume-writing skills, provide interviewing tips and
identify available positions at the University.
In addition, University and center staff will work together to
identify members of the Latin American community who have the
professional work experience to consider employment at the University.
These individuals will be encouraged to apply for positions as
they become available.
Campus Diversity Unit responds to new issues
The Campus Diversity Unit, established in 1992 as the
administrative arm of the Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural
Diversity, provides services that support commission goals.
The unit, which includes the Center for Black Culture, the Office
of Women's Affairs and the Office of Multicultural Programs, provides
staff support for such initiatives as the annual publication,
Celebrate Us, which highlights diversity programming across the
University; provides support for the lesbian, gay and bisexual caucus;
sustains dialog between African-American and Jewish students; provides
services for Hispanic students; and assists staff and students with
disabilities.
The unit also is structured to respond to emerging issues.
