Celebrating diversity

The African-American and Latino student orientation, held
Wednesday, Aug. 31, as part of New Student Orientation, was highly
successful.
President Roselle, Black American Studies program director James
Newton and Assistant Professor of Sociology Ramiro Martinez welcomed
the more than 50 freshmen who attended the program, which ran from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m.
A workshop, "Celebrating Diversity," was the centerpiece of the
program.
Student comments at the conclusion of the event were positive,
including: "The workshop allowed me to meet new people"; "This
workshop made me feel more comfortable"; and "Everyone left with a
sense of happiness."
The event was sponsored by the Center for Black Culture and the
Campus Diversity Unit of the Office of Affirmative Action and
Multicultural Programs.
