ADA program to expand activities
A number of new activities for the 1994-95 year have been
announced by Jeanette DiScala, Americans with Disabilities Act
coordinator.
The provision of services to students with disabilities will be
enhanced by the participation of retired faculty and staff and other
community members in a volunteer program designed to help with various
academic tasks.
Volunteers will assist with notetaking, library activities,
preparing and taking examinations and in acclimating students to the
physical environment of the campus.
Persons interested in participating in the Disabilities Volunteer
Program should contact the ADA coordinator's office at 831-2835.
In addition, the evaluation of University-wide compliance with
federal guidelines will continue. The ADA statute applies not only to
student programs, services and activities but also to those that
affect employees and members of the general public who visit the
campus. DiScala will offer training sessions for faculty and staff to
help them better understand University obligations under the law.
