State-of-the-art indoor track, courts, installed in Field House
A state-of-the art indoor track, designed to be one of the
fastest on the East Coast, is part of this summer's renovation of the
Delaware Field House, according to Kathleen Pohlig, assistant director
of the Intercollegiate Athletics Program, who coordinated the project.
The track has a new surface and the configuration has been
changed for smoother turns. There also are eight uninterrupted sprint
lanes off to one side, and the long jump pit has been moved.
Used as a multi-sports facility, the field house has a different
floor surface in the center, which houses four basketball courts and
four tennis courts.
Eight suspended backboards, which can roll up to the ceiling,
also have been installed.
The project cost more than $300,000, and the newly redone sports
building will be in use Aug. 19.
