Stephen M. Grimble joins UD as new v.p. and treasurer

     Stephen M. Grimble, who has had an international career as a senior
finance executive with the DuPont Co., has been named vice president and
treasurer at the University of Delaware, Andrew B. Kirkpatrick Jr.,
chairman of the Board of Trustees, and University President David P.
Roselle announced today.
     A 1966 UD alumnus, Grimble joined the University administration July
17, replacing J. Robert R. Harrison, who is retiring after serving as
treasurer since 1973.
     "Steve Grimble has a strong international perspective, coupled with
broad experience and strong planning and financial skills. Certainly, we
will make use of all these talents," Kirkpatrick said.
     "I look forward to working with Steve on our management team," Roselle
said. "He has had a distinguished career in financial administration, has a
demonstrated record of creativity, leadership and sensitivity to
multicultural issues, and is knowledgeable of the University and its
operations."
     Working with the Board of Trustees and the president, the treasurer
supervises all financial operations of the University, which has an annual
budget of $390 million and an endowment valued at more than $460 million.
     Grimble earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University
in 1966, graduating first in his accounting class.
     At the DuPont Co. from 1966-93, he held various financial staff and
management positions. As director of finance for DuPont Chemicals from 1992-
93, he was the chief financial officer for four global business groups with
total annual sales of more than $3.5 billion. His other positions at DuPont
included vice president finance for DuPont South America from 1990-92,
comptroller for medical products from 1988-90 and group director for Latin
America and Australia from 1986-88.
     Currently co-chairperson of the Finance Subcommittee of Delaware's
Education Improvement Commission, he also serves on the Board of Directors
of Community Housing Inc. and the Board of Visitors of Valley Forge
Military Academy and College. In 1989-90, he served on the University's
Accounting Advisory Board.
     A captain in the U.S. Air Force, he served in Vietnam from 1969-70 and
was awarded the Bronze Star and Air Force commendation medals.
     Grimble and his wife, Eliete, live in Wilmington.
