Interim dean announced

     William B. Stanley, chairperson and professor of the Department of
Educational Development, will serve as interim dean of the College of
Education, beginning in September, Provost Mel Schiavelli announced.
     A graduate of Kean College, Stanley received his master's and doctoral
degrees from Rutgers University.
     Stanley began his career as a social studies teacher in New Jersey.
After he completed his doctorate in 1979, he was an instructor at Rutgers
University and then joined the faculty of Louisiana State University, where
he became the assistant chairperson and coordinator of graduate programs.
     He came to Delaware in 1987 and, in addition to chairing the
educational development department, has served as coordinator of the
Elementary Teacher Education Program.
     A member of Project 30 and the Holmes Group, both national initiatives
for improving teacher education, Stanley also co-chaired the Delaware
Social Studies Curriculum Framework Commission from 1992-1995 and received
grants from the U.S. Department of Education to help implement this
project.
     Stanley has published more than 40 articles in professional journals
and has made numerous presentations at scholarly conferences. His recent
book, Curriculum for Utopia, was published by SUNY Press.
