Noon concerts set on Perkins patio
     A series of noon concerts, featuring folk, jazz, calypso and R&B,
are being presented this summer on the patio of the Perkins Student
Center.
     The free public concerts are held from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesdays
and Thursdays in June and July.
     June performers and dates include Chris Morrow, June 8;
Tarabridge, June 13; Kolleen Bower, June 15; Larry Roney, June 20;
John Flynn, June 22; Duane & Ray, June 27; and David Pearson, June 29.
     Scheduled in July are the Royal Palm Steel Band, July 11; Hekyll
& Jive, July 13; Duane & Jay, July 18; Wanamaker Lewis, July 20; Rob
Guttenberg, July 25; and Larry Roney, July 27.


'Birds of America' in library display
     "Birds of America:  An Exhibition of the Work of John James
Audubon" is on display in the main exhibition case of the Special
Collections Gallery of the Morris Library through July 29.
     Audubon (1785-1851), one of the foremost artists and naturalists
of the 19th century, is know particularly for his magnificent
paintings of birds, which were collected and reproduced in The Birds
of America. Originally published in 1827, the book has been issued in
numerous editions and formats.
     The exhibition includes a copy of the unique double-elephant
folio edition of The Birds of America, which was issued in 1860 by
John Woodhouse Audubon, Audubon's son.
     It includes chromolithographs by the German lithographer Julius
Bein and was published by Roe Lockwood & Son of New York.
     The exhibition also includes several other books by and about
Audubon, including the 1840 edition of The Birds of America.

June music fest at Wilmington school
     Cynthia Carr, associate professor of music, and Julie Nishimura,
faculty accompanist, will be featured at the Wilmington Music
Festival, a four-evening event being held in the Concert Hall of the
Wilmington Music School.
     Carr and Nishimura will perform with the Festival Quartet at 7:30
p.m., Sunday, June 25. The program will feature works by Beethoven,
Bartok and Shubert.
     Programs featuring other artists will be presented on June 16, 18
and 30.
     Single concert tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and
senior citizens and $1 for student ages 8-15. For further information,

Country dancing on Saturday night
     The Ballroom Dance Club will sponsor country line dancing lessons
from 8-9 p.m., Saturday, June 10, in Pearson Hall. Rick Wilson of
Can't Stop Dancing will give the lessons and will be host for general
dancing from 9 p.m.-midnight.
     Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students.

Faculty featured in summer series
     The University's annual Faculty Spotlight Series will be held
from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Wednesdays this summer in the Perkins Student
Center.
     All lectures are free and open to the public.
     The series begins on June 14 with Carol Hoffecker, associate
provost for graduate studies and Richards Professor of History at the
University, who will discuss "The History of Women at the University
of Delaware." Her talk will be held in the Collins Room.
     Peter Kolchin, Henry Clay Reed Professor of History at UD, will
discuss "American Slavery" in the Alumni Room on June 21.
     On June 28, Ed Okonowicz, local storyteller and editor in the
University's Office of Public Relations, will discuss "Storytelling
and Conversations About Ghosts on Delmarva" in the Collins Room.
     Debra Miller, assistant professor in the University's Master of
Arts in Liberal Studies program, will discuss "Billy Name: Stills from
the Warhol Films" on July 12 in the Alumni Room.
     On July 19 Edward Guerrero, assistant professor of English, will
discuss "The African-American Image in Film" in the Collins Room.
     The series concludes on July 26, when Leo LeMay, Winterthur
Professor of English, speaks on "Did Pocahontas Save Capt. John
Smith?" His talk will be held in the Ewing Room.
