Rev. Laura Lee Wilson selected for conference
Laura Lee Wilson, executive director/campus pastor of the Wesley
Foundation Campus Ministry at the University, has been selected as one
of six campus pastors/chaplains from the United States to attend the
European Student Chaplains Conference this month in Vienna.
Other U.S. schools represented at the conference include Portland
State University in Oregon, Presbyterian College in South Carolina,
Virginia Wesleyan College, the College of Wooster in Ohio and the

The conference topic is "...and the MEDIA said: 'Let US make man
in OUR image...,' " an exploration of the relationship between
religion and the media.
Wilson came to Newark in 1991 from Western Maryland College. As
Methodist campus pastor, she works with an active student group within
the framework of what she calls the "four S's"-spirituality, service,
stewardship of the Earth and social activities. The students have been
involved in such projects as sending books to African University,
working with the Delaware Food Bank and Adopt-A-Highway program and
participating in Earth Day.
In addition, Wilson serves the campus community on the
President's Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural Diversity, the
Sex Education Task Force, the Sexual Assault Awareness Week Committee,
the Campus Diversity Unit, Solutions to Sexual Violence Task Force,
New Student Orientation and diversity training workshops. She also
served on the Lesbian, Gay and Bixexual Concern Caucus and has been a
guest speaker in classes and residence halls.
A graduate of Western Maryland College and Wesley Theological
Seminary in Washington, D.C., she is a member of the National Campus
Ministry Association and serves as the convener of Campus Ministry
Women. She is involved in the University Religious Leaders
Organization on campus and the Religious Concerns Caucus, which has
been involved in assessing the religious climate on campus and the
religious concerns of students.
In 1994, Wilson received the Francis Asbury Award for Fostering
United Methodist Ministries in Higher Education in the Northeast area,
one of the highest awards given to campus pastors from the United
Methodist Church.
