UDARF walking to fight cancer
The University of Delaware Association of Retired Faculty (UDARF)
will participate in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life June
23-24 at the Hodgson Vocational-Technical High School in Glasgow.
Relay for Life is a 24-hour walking/running team event. Teams of
8-15 people walk around the track for the entire day, each person
taking his or her turn in shifts. Each team must raise a minimum of
$1,000 for the American Cancer Society.
UDARF currently has 12 walkers registered to participate,
according to John Wriston, a retired biochemistry professor and event
organizer.
"I thought this would be a fun thing to do," he said. "We help
raise money while having a good time. I like to walk."
Many events are planned to help make the day special. Highlights
include a moonlight luminary ceremony in honor of cancer patients, a
cook-off contest and music, games and entertainment .
"We want people to come down and support us and have a good
time," Wriston said. "It's supposed to be like a big outdoor fair.
Everyone is welcome."
For information on the event and how to make a pledge, contact
Wriston at 738-4543.
