Trustees approve promotion and tenure of 37 faculty

     The University of Delaware Board of Trustees approved the
promotion and tenure of 37 faculty members at its regular semiannual
meeting May 23.
     Fourteen faculty members were promoted to full professor:
       Charles Boncelet Jr., electrical engineering;
       Fleda Brown-Jackson, English,
       Larry A. Cogburn III, animal science and agricultural
          biochemistry;
       Sue Davis, political science and international relations;
       Kenneth C. Haas, sociology and criminal justice;
       Dallas G. Hoover, food science;
       Marion C. Hyson, individual and family studies;
       Helene Intraub, psychology;
       Larry W. Peterson and Robert J. Streckfuss, both music;
       Nancy Schweda-Nicholson, linguistics;
       Nancy M. Targett, marine studies;
       Klaus H. Theopold, chemistry and biochemistry; and
       Bruce L. Vasilas, plant and soil sciences.

     Twenty-two faculty members were promoted to the rank of associate
professor:
       Cynthia L. Carr, music;
       Mary C. Carroll, nursing;
       James E. Davis and Charles A. MacArthur, both educational
          studies;
       Thomas A. Evans, plant and soil sciences;
       R. Gary Ferguson, foreign languages and literatures;
       Edward V. Guerrero, Sara R. Horowitz and Alvina E. Quintana,
          all English;
       Rhonda A. Hyde, food and resource economics;
       Daniel J. Leathers, geography;
       Chung Ngoc T. Leung, physics and astronomy;
       Douglas M. McLeod and Wendy Samter, both communication;
       David O. Olagunju, mathematical sciences;
       Linda Pellecchia, art history;
       R. Valery Roy, mechanical engineering;
       John E. Sawyer, business administration;
       David R. Shearer, history;
       Eileen T. Smitheimer, theatre;
       Lynn Snyder-Mackler, physical therapy; and
       Norman J. Wagner, chemical engineering.

     John G. Elias, associate professor of electrical engineering, was
granted tenure.
     All appointments are effective Sept. 1.
