NYSP on campus this summer
The National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) will be held on the
Newark campus from July 10-Aug. 12 for the fourth consecutive summer .
According to Ronald Whittington, director of affirmative action
and multicultural programs, approximately 250 students, ages 10-16
from greater New Castle County, will be involved in daily sessions
involving sports education instruction and drug and alcohol awareness
and counseling.
NYSP is cosponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic
Association and the U.S. Department of Health and Social Services.
This year, the Delaware Department of Public Instruction is
sponsoring a free food service program, including breakfast and lunch
each day, for NYSP participants.
Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all
activities are the same for all, regardless of race, color, national
origin, sex, age or handicap, and there will be no discrimination in
the course of the meal service.
Meals will be served at Center Court in the Perkins Student
Center.
